Today, I’m reflecting on my day as I have for the past month trying to think of something to write about as my “win” for the day. Participating in “Slice of Life” was way outside of my comfort zone since I struggle with writing. What I feel most proud of today is completing 31 blog posts in a month. This is a major win for me—as I’d never written a blog before in my life! Another win that I’ve taken from participating is being forced to reflect upon each day and realizing I can find some good in every single day…even the REALLY long and cold ones! It’s easy to get down and feel like the world is up against you, but with a shift in perspective you realize there is always some sort of good you can be grateful for. I hope to continue reflecting each day as time goes on and to always find my special “win” no matter how big or small.

Today, was an “adult only” day. We had breakfast with Juliette and she did not disappoint with her giggles and wanting more blueberries. We decided to leave early this morning and drive south through the desert to Tucson, as our youngest daughter attended the University of Arizona. It was great to reminisce about our past trips when we came to see her when she was in college. We stopped at one of her favorite restaurants on campus, Frog & Frikin for appetizers. We loved being able to sit outside as we ate our appetizer and take in the view! Then we took a walk around campus. Taking in all the stunning view of the desert with large mountains surrounding the campus. We can understand why she loved it here so much, as this is one of our favorites. After visiting the campus, we ended the day with one more stop…In N Out. It wouldn’t be a trip out west without a stop for one of their burgers! They are famous out west and tasty because the never freeze the meat they use. After our burgers we headed north back to Phoenix in hopes to make it back in time to give Juliette a hug goodnight.
Today’s win was being able to revisit Tucson. It’s a place that we love dearly and we miss visiting.

Another beautiful sunny day in the desert. It is best to go out earlier with Juliette, as it is cooler in the morning. This morning we take her to the park. She is excited and full of energy. She runs to her favorite swing and she is smiling ear to ear. She loves to be pushed on the swing and I love catching her feet as she comes back to me. She shows me that she is done with the swing by using sign language “all done”. Her next favorite at the park is the slide. She gingerly climbs the stairs and stands above the slide. She is reminded to sit at the top of the slide before going down. Juliette is a little insecure going down the slide alone and she holds her mother’s hand, as she flies down the slide. I am at the bottom to see her big smile and to catch her. She runs to climb the stairs again. Ah, the energy she has! We end our adventure with a picnic in the shade to cool down.
Today’s win was being reminded ow a simple outdoor activity can really brighten my day. As we are approaching spring in Illinois, I will make an effort to get out more.

Today we brought Juliette to the zoo. Witnessing the world through her eyes is so incredible. Watching her excitement as we walked by the monkeys and her eyes light up at how large the giraffes are was so fun! The zoo provided a lot of fun activities for her including her first merry go round ride where she yelled “weee” the entire time and clapped at the end. She tried her first few bites of ice cream and was able to run around a lot. After we strapped her into her car seat after the zoo trip she was asleep within minutes. Today’s win was experiencing my granddaughter’s first trip to the Zoo. There were so many special moments and I’m grateful I got to be a part of it

I woke this morning to a loud babble and some giggles instead of my alarm. I sighed in deep relief to have no obligations today besides spending time with my granddaughter, Juliette. I met her at the kitchen table where she is eagerly waiting for her banana muffins with a side of blueberries. Juliette LOVES breakfast. I’m confident it’s her favorite meal. Luckily, she’s a great eater! Most kids would go for the muffin first, but our sweet Juliette is the blueberry queen. She would eat only blueberries all day long if we’d let her! After she polished off her blueberries, she took a few bites of her muffin and she was ready to begin her day. After we cleaned her adorable blue cheeks and hands from breakfast she set off toward her toy bin. I am so lucky to be able to watch my blueberry queen eat breakfast all week!
Today’s win is waking up to the sweet sound of a baby, it’s been a long time since I’ve had that in my house and it reminds me of what a special stage of life it is.

It was the day before spring break and all through the office there’s a buzz of chatter and wrapping up work. One whole week of rest and relaxation – in all of my years of work I’ve never been more ready for a spring break. Like a kid looking forward to Christmas morning, I’m counting down the minutes until my flight to my daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter. I’m especially eager for this visit to the desert since my granddaughter is 13 months now and we can enjoy more activities. Trips to the zoo, swimming in the pool and long walks in the sunset…there is so much on the agenda that I’m not sure 1 week will feel like enough time to fit it all in.
Today’s win is having so much to look forward to in the upcoming week. I’m lucky to be able to spend some much quality time with the people I love the most for one full week and to also be able to recharge my batteries so I can come back and finish the year strong!

The weather was very gloomy today, but my mood was not! After work I came home to a surprise on my doorstep. A package from Amazon, but I don’t remember ordering anything! I opened the box to find Rose Water hydrating spray and a note from my daughter. We were together a few weeks ago and she was explaining to me that she uses it after she showers each day and that she loves it! I was interested in trying it myself but haven’t gotten to the store yet to pick it up. This was such a pleasant surprise to come home to! Today’s win was being on the receiving end of the random act of kindness. I look forward to adding the spray to my self-care routine.

As we are nearing Spring Break, I decided to prepare with a little pampering at the salon. Anytime my youngest daughter catches wind of my plans to go to the nail salon she makes the trek from downtown to join me for some mother/daughter bonding (and a free pedicure). We both settled into our chairs and did a large sigh of relief—we made it through Hump Day of a very busy week for both of us. We shared about our days and upcoming events in our lives. I tried to convince my daughter to get something besides a light pink on her nails, but she is set in her ways and wanted to stick with what she knew she loved. I like to change my nail color each salon visit based on the season and upcoming plans! After our nails finished drying, we continued to treat ourselves by picking up dinner instead of putting ourselves through the task of cooking and clean up at home. We enjoyed our soup and sat and laughed about stories from the past. Today’s win was making the time to treat myself and to spend time with my daughter who lives downtown.

Today, I needed to really unplug when I got home from work. One hobby that always helps me relax is baking. When my kids were little I loved to include them in the baking process. Today would be different, I’m only baking for two. I recently bought ramekins (small individual dish) to try new recipes in. I’m craving chocolate and scanned Pinterest to find a chocolate cake recipe for ramekins—luckily the recipe called for standard ingredients that I already had on hand. My sister came with dinner and I told her I had a sweet treat for her to try. I served them with a small scoop of vanilla ice cream on top and she told me this was one of my best desserts yet! Today’s win was being able to unplug and do a hobby that I enjoy…the sweet chocolatey treat at the end was also a win!

I don’t know about you, but I hate going to the dentist. Today, I had a dentist appointment after work. He is a nice man and I like his dental hygienist, but I just hate going. Of course I am due for my annual x-rays. Yippee! My dentist office uses the bitewing method where you bite down on what feels like a piece of cardboard and the x-ray is taken. This is done a total of 4 times to get an x-ray of your entire mouth. The dental hygienist is then scraping, brushing and flossing. The dentist comes in and all is good! I don’t have to come back for 6 months!
Today’s win was completing my necessary task for my health, even though it wasn’t my favorite.
